HOW TO START RUNNING EXERCISE AS A BEGINNER

If you are someone who has never run before as a form of exercise, I get it.

I’ve been there.

I used to have a habit of walking 7,000 steps per day.

But I wanted to do something more intense, so I picked running as my new form of exercise.

In this article, I want to share my experience of how I started my running exercise habit and some tips and tricks about how you can start your own running habit.

MY EXPERIENCE

Running didn’t come naturally to me.

I remember the very first time I ran for 20 seconds! 🤣

And the abdominal pain, oh man!

But over time, I pushed myself a little every day. 20 seconds eventually turned into 50 minutes!

And it took me 2 years.

TAKE THE FIRST STEP AND STICK TO IT

Starting is really hard.

But if you have any experience with previous exercises, you know that at first you will struggle.

But what if this is the very first exercise you are going to do?

The following tips will help you a lot.

Don’t just read them, implement them.

  • TIP 1: Start With Walking Exercise

I personally followed this approach.

Before starting running exercises, practice walking for 90 days.

Then start running at your own pace.

At the time of practicing your walking exercise

Try to pace up your walking exercise gradually

To tract your actual speed you could use your phone or smartwatch

Personally I use smartwatch

  • TIP 2: Stay Consistent

Consistency is the key to making a good habit stick.

To keep up with the running exercise, make time for it and stick to it through thick and thin.

The best way to do this is to put the running task in your to do list

Always plan the running exercise one day before

The plan should be about

Running indoor/outdoor, for how long you’ll run etc.

  • TIP 3: Listen To Your Body

In tip 2, I talked about making and keeping promises.

But sometimes you will feel enervated.

At those times, if your body feels like taking a quick nap or a day off, don’t hesitate.

Take the nap or day off.

Your body knows better

  • TIP 4: Buy Some Equipment

Running will become more natural if you have comfortable clothes and shoes.

These are very important to make running exercises feel more natural.

So, if you are thinking of picking running as an exercise, consider this consumption as a form of a good investment.

FINAL THOUGHT

After picking up running exercises, your body muscles will feel pain.

But don’t be upset.

It’s just your body adapting to the intense running exercise.

Over time, you will run miles like a professional.

So, get up, wear your shoes and clothes
